Rob Lowe stars in the upcoming Netflix movie Dog Gone, a heartwarming story about everyday heroism following a father and son searching for their lost dog on the Appalachian Trail. And no, the dog doesn’t die (according to Netflix).

The dog at the center of this story is Gonker, an adorable lab who loves donuts and playing fetch. Dog Gone is based on the 2016 book by Pauls Toutonghi. Stephen Herek directs a script from Nick Santora.

Fielding Marshall (Johnny Berchtold) loves his adorable pup, but he grows increasingly stressed when Gonker disappears on the trail, especially since Gonker needs medicine to survive. Luckily for Gonker, Fielding and his dad John (Lowe), will stop at nothing to find their four-legged friend.

While chatting with Tudum, Lowe revealed that he was “super proud” of the movie and teased that it is “a total emotional journey that will definitely give you all the feels.”

Dog Gone synopsis

Dog Gone is based on the book Dog Gone: A Lost Pet’s Extraordinary Journey and the Family Who Brought Him Home by Pauls Toutonghi, which is a true story.

"After a young man and his beloved dog are separated on the Appalachian Trail, he and his father must begin a desperate search to find him before it’s too late. Based on an incredible true story of humanity and everyday heroism."
