Firefly Lane season 1 recap: What to remember before season 2
By Mads Lennon
Firefly Lane season 2 part 1 premieres this December on Netflix. But since it has been well over a year since the show’s first season debuted, many viewers have probably forgotten some of the most important events that occurred in season 1.
The show’s second season will also be the last, with 16 episodes split into two parts. The first part will dig into what happened between Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Kate (Sarah Chalke) that led to their big falling out in 2005. But while Kate and Tully’s friendship ending is undoubtedly one of the biggest cliffhangers at the end of season 1, there are several other notable storylines to keep track of, too.
Below we’ve highlighted some of the most significant plotlines and moments from season 1 that might be important in the show’s second season.
What happened at the end of Firefly Lane season 1?
There are several dramatic events in the Firefly Lane season 1 finale, but the two most important things are probably Tully and Kate’s fallout and Johnny’s (Ben Lawson) accident in Iraq.
The season ends with a flash-forward to 2005, when Kate attends her father, Bud’s (Paul McGillion) funeral. Tully tries to go inside, but Kate tells her that she will never forgive her and that she never wants to see Tully again. What could have ended the 30-year friendship between the Firefly Lane girls? That will be addressed in season 2 part 1.
As for Johnny, we know he was involved in an IED explosion while in Iraq. His fate is left hanging in the balance. Will he survive?
Tully and Max update
When we last left off with Tully and Max, they had separated. Tully had a miscarriage, and Max (Jon-Michael Ecker) proposed that they get their marriage annulled. Tully asked Max for another chance, suggesting that he meet her at the gazebo where they got married if he is willing to get a fresh start on their relationship. Max doesn’t show up, so it seems like he doesn’t feel the same way about her.
Travis and Kate update
The last time we saw Kate and Travis (Brandon Jay McLaren) together, it became apparent that Kate still has feelings for Johnny despite their divorce. She accidentally says Johnny’s name while kissing Travis. They agree to hit the brakes and take their relationship much slower.
Tully quits The Girlfriend Hour
After the predatory Wilson King (Martin Donovan) takes over The Girlfriend Hour, Tully quits instead of agreeing to work under him. She asks Kate to be her producer on a new television show.
Cloud gets arrested
In the 1970s storyline, we see Tully’s mom Cloud (Beau Garrett), get arrested, forcing Tully to leave Firefly Lane and move in with her grandmother. This is the first time Tully and Kate have had to deal with a separation like this.
Odds & Ends
- Margie (Chelah Horsdal) had an affair in the 1970s. Bud confronted her about it, and they had a fight that led to Bud asking Margie to pick between him and the other man. Since we know they are married in the present, it seems clear that Margie stays with Bud, and they make things work.
- Sean (Jason McKinnon) came out to his wife, Julia, and they split up. He also came out to Kate, but his parents still do not know he’s gay.
