Firefly Lane season 2 will be the final season (and split in two parts!)
By Mads Lennon
We’ve got a good news/bad news situation to share with Firefly Lane fans. On October 3, Netflix announced that the highly-anticipated Firefly Lane season 2 would be the final season of the series starring Sarah Chalke and Katherine Heigl.
But before you get too disappointed, let’s drop the good news (sorry, I’m a “let me hear the bad news first” kind of person), Netflix has supersized the show’s sophomore run and fans will have 16 brand new episodes to watch before they have to say goodbye for good!
So while it’s unfortunate that we’re nearing the end of Firefly Lane so soon after its beginning, it’s awesome that we still have so many episodes left before then! Plus, the book series the show is based on by Kristin Hannah only consists of two books, Firefly Lane and Fly Away, so it makes sense that the show would have just two seasons.
Firefly Lane season 2 will be split into two parts
It looks like splitting shows into two volumes is a trend that’s here to stay at Netflix. What started as a one-off during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic with Lucifer season 5 has now happened with Stranger Things season 4 and Netflix is also splitting You season 4 into two volumes. Firefly Lane season 2 is just the latest show of the bunch to join the trend.
In addition to announcing a release date, episode count, plot synopsis, and revealing that it would be the final season, Netflix also told us how many episodes to expect in each volume! The first volume, which will premiere on December 2, 2022, will consist of nine episodes, leaving seven episodes for volume two, debuting sometime in 2023.
