Lucifer and the 3 best (and 2 worst) shows Netflix has saved from cancellation
Designated Survivor
Although Designated Survivor saw pretty good reviews when it was on the air, we’re adding this to our list as a bad move on Netflix’s part to save simply because they really couldn’t revive it. The political drama first premiered in 2016 on ABC and it saw impressive ratings. But the network decided to cancel it after two seasons, and just a few months later, Netflix announced they would be picking it up.
Designated Survivor season 3 was released on Netflix in 2019, but about a month later, the streamer decided to cancel it, too! Though many people enjoyed the show, it was all in all a bit of a waste for Netflix to bring it back only to give it the boot right after. Forbes speculated at the time that the viewership numbers weren’t up to par for Netflix (though we don’t know those exact numbers), while Deadline said the actors were only on a one-year contract for the third season.
Full House
While Full House was a staple in so many people’s childhoods, Fuller House just simply could never capture the same magic. The classic family show ran from 1987 to 1995 before ABC decided to cancel it, never giving it the proper ending fans wanted. In an interview with the late Bob Saget, the Danny Tanner actor told Us Weekly that the cast was not given a warning before the network pulled the show.
With almost all of the main cast willing to come back, it was kind of a no-brainer for Netflix to make Fuller House, a sequel series that premiered in 2016. Sadly, it just wasn’t good. It ran for five seasons, which was far too long, and received generally bad reviews. Though Netflix never confirmed it, many publications assumed the reason it ended with season 5 was due to poor viewership numbers.
This one should’ve just stayed in the ’90s.
