Are any Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies on Netflix?

Sadly, only one movie from the franchise is available to stream on Netflix. It’s the ninth installment, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, released on Netflix in February 2022. It’s a direct sequel to the 1974 original but set decades later. Hopefully, the streamer will acquire licensing rights to other Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies in the future.

Surprisingly, finding a set chronology in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre universe is complicated because the films have been rebooted several times. There are technically multiple continuities.

You can watch the slasher films in any order you’d like, but we have a suggestion. We recommend watching the first four Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies (1974, 1986, 1990, and 1995) in release date order and then watching the last five movies in whichever order you choose.

If you like the idea of trying to watch a proper “continuity,” you have a couple of options. Tobe Hooper directed the first two movies, so you could consider The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 as its own duology. However, there isn’t much connecting the two apart from Leatherface (who is portrayed by several different actors, even between these two films).

Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot continuity

As if it’s not confusing enough to reboot the series, but technically the 2006 film would come before the 2003 one since it’s a prequel.

Sally Hardesty’s story

In 2022, Netflix released a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre film that follows up with Sally Hardesty, the final girl from the original 1974 film. The producers copied the same formula as Blumhouse’s recent Halloween reboot trilogy, picking up with Laurie Strode after the first Halloween and ignoring all the movies that came between.

The other two films released between 2012 and 2017 don’t really fit into one specific continuity, Again, if you’re a completionist, it’s probably just easier to watch all of the films by release year.
