Netflix has really upped its game in the horror genre with many great releases in 2021.  There are plenty more on the way in the genre, including the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre that will release in February.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a horror franchise that began with the original film released in 1974. This new film will be the ninth in the series and be a direct sequel of the original movie. The Halloween franchise did this same thing with its latest set of films. The new stories ignore everything that occurred with the other films and pick up where the original left off. It is an excellent concept for die-hard fans of the originals and allows creative freedom to carry on the story.

Directed by David Blue Garcia (Blood Fest) from the screenplay by Chris Thomas Devil, the film begins several decades after the original. The story was written by Fede Álvarez and Rodo Sayagues, who also wrote Evil Dead (2013) and Don’t Breathe.

What is Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre about?

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022 releases on Netflix on Feb. 18 and will introduce the killer Leatherface to a new generation of viewers. Mark Burnham will portray Leatherface in this film, a role originally played by Gunnar Hansen.

The original film tells of a family of cannibals who kidnap, kill and eat random travelers who venture near their farm in the remote area of Texas.

The new film will see a group of entrepreneurs head the town of Harlow, Texas, to revitalize the community. Leatherface will be reawakened as this influx of new people disrupts the quiet sleepy town, which hides his true nature. The sole survivor of the original killing spree Sally Hardesty reappears to seek revenge for Leatherface’s killing of her brother and friends.

The film also stars Sarah Yarkin, Elsie Fisher, Jacob Latimore, Moe Dunford, Olwen Fouéré, Alice Krige, and Jessica Allain.
