Virgin River, Firefly Lane, and 10 best cozy fall shows on Netflix right now
By Reed Gaudens
Whenever the calendar strikes autumn, it’s time for those who thrive in the fall months to shine. Between all of the best movies to marathon and the official start of spooky season, there’s so much to watch. Don’t mind if we add the coziest fall shows to watch on Netflix.
By now, you’re probably seasons-deep in your annual rewatch of Gilmore Girls or queuing up The Vampire Diaries over at HBO Max. Maybe you’re working your way through Grey’s Anatomy (again) or thinking about starting a new Netflix series you missed the first time around.
There are so many cozy fall shows on Netflix that you might not know where to begin. Of course, we’ve included all of the fall standbys (because Stars Hollow is the place to be), but we’re also suggesting some other series that just fit this time of year so well.
Cozy falls shows on Netflix right now
From heartwarming dramas to sweeping romances, here are 10 of the best fall shows to watch on Netflix right now, beginning below with the hit series Virgin River.
Virgin River
Even though new seasons of Virgin River have started to release on Netflix in July, make no mistake: The fan-favorite romantic drama is a fall show through and through. The scenery alone makes Virgin River feel like the most inviting (fictional) small town in the world. While the series might tackle some heavier themes and subject matter, there’s no doubt that Virgin River is a series to enjoy in the chilly fall months under a warm blanket and with some mulled wine.
Gilmore Girls
Is there any other show out there that feels as much like fall as Gilmore Girls does? From the colorful leaves in the opening credits to the general feeling of fall calmness, Gilmore Girls has become an annual autumn staple for so many fans. If Mariah Carey is the queen of Christmas, Lorelai and Rory Gilmore are most definitely the queens of fall. Don’t miss your chance to watch all seven seasons (plus the revival miniseries!) on Netflix while they’re still available.
Partner Track
Arden Cho stars in the Netflix original romantic legal drama Partner Track as Ingrid Yun, a mergers and acquisitions lawyer looking to rise through the ranks of her prestigious New York City law firm as a partner. The series released in late August, but all of the romance — and the fall and holiday setting of some of the episodes — makes Partner Track one of the coziest fall shows on Netflix.
Grey’s Anatomy
A medical drama that doesn’t pull punches when it comes to the topics it covers might not seem like the most obvious choice for a “cozy” show, but for so many viewers, Grey’s Anatomy has been a tried-and-true comfort show. For almost 20 years! ABC’s long-running crown jewel runs the gamut of relationship drama and medical drama, making for one of the most binge-worthy television shows of all time and the best series to dig into in the fall months.
Firefly Lane
Speaking of Grey’s Anatomy, one of the hit show’s original stars now co-leads a hit Netflix original series. Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke star in Firefly Lane, the multi-year tale of best friends Tully and Kate. The series is based on the book of the same name by Kristin Hannah and will return for its second season in fall 2022. Watching Firefly Lane is just like curling up with a good book or hanging out with your best friends.
All American
Nothing says “fall” more than American football. Luckily, fans can binge-watch four juicy seasons of The CW’s hit sports drama series All American on Netflix, with the fifth season premiering on The CW in October. (Check out its spin-off, All American: Homecoming, on The CW and Netflix.) For an extra dose of football this fall with a bonus sprinkle of nostalgia, Netflix also currently streams all five seasons of the beloved drama series Friday Night Lights.
Ginny & Georgia
While fans wait for more episodes of Ginny & Georgia to hit Netflix, there’s no time like the fall season to rewatch the first season. The comedy-drama series, which is the tale of a mother and daughter who are 15 years apart, touches on heavy themes but also has a welcome sense of humor and levity. Catch up with another one of TV’s best mother-daughter duos!
Dynasty
A reboot of the classic 1980s primetime soap opera of the same name, Dynasty aired on The CW for five glorious seasons of wild soapy twists. The Carringtons receive a much-needed modern update, and that includes keeping the camp of the original but adding in a dash of comedy and heart. The complete series is now available to stream on Netflix and everyone should this fall.
Bridgerton
What could be cozier than the love stories of Bridgerton? The popular Netflix period drama has told the love stories of both Daphne Bridgerton and Anthony Bridgerton in its first two seasons, with the upcoming third season taking on the complicated relationship of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington. It’s time for a rewatch, and you know the Duke and Viscount can heat up a chilly fall evening.
Good Witch
For a more wholesome fall offering, the Hallmark Channel’s fantasy dramedy Good Witch is the perfect option for those looking for thrills that aren’t too chilling. The series takes place in the small town of Middleton and centers on Cassie Nightingale, her teenage daughter, and their magical abilities. All seven seasons of the series are currently available on Netflix.
