Vikings: Valhalla is just one of several best spinoff shows streaming on Netflix right now. Sometimes once you finish a show you love, you want more from that same universe and that’s where spinoff shows come in!

Netflix has picked up some spinoff shows from series that aired on other networks and also created spinoffs and continuations from their own original projects. Big Mouth spinoff Human Resources debuted earlier this year and we’re still eagerly awaiting The Witcher spinoff series Blood Origin.

Beyond that, Netflix also has some great spinoff shows streaming, like Better Call Saul and All American: Homecoming. Below we’re highlighting some of the best spinoff shows now on Netflix, including Vikings: Valhalla, of course.

Vikings: Valhalla

The original series, Vikings, premiered on the History Channel in 2013 and aired for almost a decade before the saga came to a close. Then Netflix swooped in and decided to continue the show’s lasting legacy with a new historical drama that functions as a spinoff and a sequel to the parent series.

Vikings: Valhalla is set 100 years after the events of Vikings, marking the beginning of the end of the Viking Age. The first season consisted of eight episodes, but Netflix ordered 24 to start with so the series is already renewed for a second and a third season. Given how popular Vikings was, it’s no surprise that Vikings: Valhalla has also become a huge hit for the streaming service.

Legacies

The Vampire Diaries is leaving Netflix in September and one of the franchise’s spinoff shows, The Originals, is already gone (except the final season), but Legacies should be sticking around for a while thanks to the former Netflix/CW deal. You can currently watch all four seasons of the series, which follows Klaus Mikaelson’s daughter, Hope Mikaelson.

Hope attends the Salvatore Boarding School alongside other supernatural teenagers, but she’s the first of her kind, a tribrid—meaning a witch, vampire and werewolf. The series follows her and her friends’ adventures as they try to keep evil at bay and fight all sorts of monsters in the process. Unlike the two parents series, Legacies has more of a monster-of-the-week format to set it apart.

Better Call Saul

Better Call Saul is the critically acclaimed spinoff of Breaking Bad, another acclaimed series often considered to be one of the best television shows of all time. The series came to an end recently and the sixth season is not available on Netflix yet, but should be within the next year.

At least for now, you can watch the first five and be all caught up for when season 6 finally starts streaming. This legal drama is a spin-off, prequel and sequel to Breaking Bad and follows Bob Odenkirk’s character, Jimmy McGill as he turns into the egocentric criminal defense lawyer Saul Goodman.

Narcos: Mexico

Originally, Narcos: Mexico was developed as a continuation of the original Netflix series Narcos, but then it was repurposed into one of several spinoff shows now available on the service.

In Narcos: Mexico, viewers are taken back to the beginning of the modern drug war when the trafficking world was for more chaotic and disorganized. Set in the 1980s, the series follows Felix Gallardo after he takes control of the Guadalajara Cartel and tries to build an empire. The series stars Michael Peña and Diego Luna.

The Haunting of Bly Manor

Technically, The Haunting of Bly Manor isn’t really a spinoff, it’s more of a continuation or follow-up to The Haunting of Hill House, but I’m counting it here anyway because… close enough.

Like Hill House, Bly Manor is based on a classic horror story, this time Henry James novella The Turn of the Screw. A young American woman (Victoria Pedretti) is hired as an au pair for two children living at the countryside manor of Bly Manor, unaware that the home is haunted.

The Witcher: Blood Origin

While not yet released, The Witcher: Blood Origin is a highly-anticipated spinoff and prequel series related to Netflix’s main Witcher series.

The new show doesn’t have a release date just yet, but rumors strongly suggest it will be coming sometime later this year, likely aiming for a December, or even Christmas, release date, taking the place of The Witcher‘s spot since season 3 is still filming.

Blood Origin will be set 1200 years before the events of the parents series and depict the creation of the first Witcher, in addition to exploring the ancient Elven civilization.

Human Resources

Human Resources is an adult animated sitcom and spinoff from the long-running animated series Big Mouth. Human Resources focuses on some of the best parts of Big Mouth, the monsters. For some, Big Mouth‘s crass and sometimes graphic jokes and content related to pre-teens can be a little hard to stomach.

Most fans of the parent show love the Hormone Monsters, Shame Wizards and various other creatures that help humans with their emotions more than the human characters. Human Resources takes all the best parts of Big Mouth and lets those monsters and creatures run wild! The show has already been renewed for a second season.

Black Summer

Black Summer is a spinoff of the Syfy series Z Nation, although the two are very distantly related. You don’t need to have watched Z Nation to check out this show.

Black Summer is a tense, apocalyptic drama series that wastes no time thrusting viewers straight into zombie violence. The show has two seasons on Netflix right now, with the second season releasing in 2021. It’s not yet clear if Netflix will renew it for a third season or if it has been quietly canceled.

Tales of the City

Like a couple of other shows mentioned on here, Tales of the City isn’t technically a spinoff show, it’s more of a continuation as it is based on the novels of the same name by Armistead Maupin.

There are several other adaptations, like the 1993 series and its sequels, More Tales of the City and Further Tales of the City. Several of the actors from the original productions returned to reprise their roles in this 2019 Netflix series, which stars Laura Linney and Elliot Page.

All American: Homecoming

All American has gotten a significant viewership boost from Netflix since the show started streaming there thanks to the old Netflix/CW deal. All American is about to enter its fifth season and it’s still going strong, strong enough to warrant a spinoff series called All American: Homecoming which was also renewed for a second season recently.

It was believed that Homecoming would go to HBO Max due to the old CW/Netflix deal expiring, but it appears Netflix opted to license the spinoff, probably because All American gets great ratings on the streaming platform. So while it’s not clear how long Homecoming (or any future seasons) will remain on Netflix, I recommend checking it out now so you can be caught up before season 2 premieres in October!
