Our favorite streamer has done it again! Netflix has granted many fans’ wishes with the release of the complete first season of All American: Homecoming on its platform. Yes, you read that right. All 13 episodes are currently streaming on Netflix, so gather your group of friends and have a watch party!

All American: Homecoming is a spinoff series of the hit CW show All American. Viewers saw a glimpse of the spinoff in a backdoor pilot episode aired as part of the third season of All American. Then, in May 2021, All American: Homecoming was picked up to series.

The sports drama series is created by Nkechi Okoro Carroll and centers around young tennis hopeful, Simone Hicks (Geffri Maya), as she pursues her athletic career at a historically Black college in Atlanta, Georgia. Simone Hicks was introduced in All American season 2 as Jordan’s new love interest (Michael Evans Behling) and quickly became a beloved character by fans. So, many people were excited to find out that she’d have a show centered around her life.

The first season premiered on The CW on Feb. 21 and was received well by critics and viewers alike. Due to the show’s success, The CW went ahead and renewed it for a second season in May, which is set to start airing on Oct. 10. Since the first season finished airing on May 23, everyone has been waiting for it to be dropped on HBO Max. But what’s surprising is the first season of All American: Homecoming arriving on Netflix instead of HBO Max. It’s a pleasant surprise, but it’s definitely unexpected.

All American: Homecoming is now streaming on Netflix

Why is the arrival of All American: Homecoming on Netflix surprising? Well, the show was initially scheduled to land on HBO Max. A June release date was even announced, but it never made its way to the streamer. However, we thought that maybe the release date got pushed back. But it looks like a licensing deal was being discussed between Netflix and the show’s distributor.

Honestly, it makes the most sense for All American: Homecoming to be streaming on Netflix since All American is already on the platform. When All American landed on Netflix, the show saw a huge increase in viewership. So, All American: Homecoming will likely benefit from this change in streamers.
