A new kids’ animated film titled The Sea Beast is scheduled to land on Netflix on July 8, so get your popcorn and drink of choice ready to watch what will surely be an exciting movie with the entire family!

The Sea Beast is an upcoming Netflix original movie helmed by Chris Williams in his solo directorial debut. You might know Williams from his work on other kids’ animated films, such as BoltBig Hero 6 and Moana. Williams and Nell Benjamin co-wrote the screenplay for The Sea Beast.

It was produced in-house at Netflix Animation, with Melissa Cobb signed on as executive producer. Williams and Jed Schlanger are producers and Mark Mancina composed the music for the movie.

The voice cast includes many talented actors, such as Karl Urban, Zaris-Angel Hator, Jared Harris, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Dan Stevens, and Kathy Burke. So what is The Sea Beast about? Here’s the synopsis and so much more right below!

The Sea Beast synopsis

The story follows a young orphan girl named Maisie, who stows away on a ship of a legendary sea monster hunter named Jacob Holland. Together, the unlikely pair embark on a journey into uncharted waters while facing any oncoming threats.

"In an era when terrifying beasts roamed the seas, monster hunters were celebrated heroes – and none were more beloved than the great Jacob Holland. The Sea Beast parents guide and age rating

The film is rated PG, meaning parental guidance is suggested. There is some content shown in the movie that some parents may find inappropriate for younger kids to watch. For example, there will be violence, the killing of sea creatures, alcohol consumption, and mild profanity used by some of the characters. So it’s up to parents to decide whether or not they allow their younger kids to watch The Sea Beast.
