The Sea Beast trailer, release date, synopsis and more
A major animated feature film titled The Sea Beast is coming to Netflix this summer, and this is a movie you absolutely should be on the lookout for!
It was first announced in 2018 and was set to be called Jacob and the Sea Beast with Big Hero 6 and Bolt co-director, Chris Williams, helming the film. He was named the sole director, which isn’t common in animation due to there being so many complexities when creating an animated movie. Williams also wrote the screenplay and signed on as a producer as well.
However, somewhere in the filmmaking process, the original movie got a name change and became The Sea Beast with Williams still on board. In February, Netflix announced its 2022 film slate, and we got a first look at the movie. Albeit, the clip was only about four seconds long.
Now we’ve received an official release date, teaser, and so much more! We shared all the juicy details right below.
The Sea Beast release date
The animated film is slated to arrive on Netflix on Friday, July 8, 2022, at 12:00 a.m. PT/3:00 a.m. ET. It will most likely be one of the streamer’s biggest animated summer releases, which will definitely create some buzz. So make sure to mark your calendars for the movie’s release on Netflix.

The Sea Beast synopsis
Here’s the official synopsis via Netflix below:
"In an era when terrifying beasts roamed the seas, monster hunters were celebrated heroes – and none were more beloved than the great Jacob Holland. But when young Maisie Brumble stows away on his fabled ship, he’s saddled with an unexpected ally. Together they embark on an epic journey into uncharted waters and make history"
The Sea Beast trailer and teaser
Netflix released the official movie trailer as part of Geeked Week 2022.
On March 30, Netflix released an official teaser for the animated movie. Take a look at the action-packed teaser right below!
The Sea Beast is rated PG, meaning parental guidance is suggested. There is some material in the movie that may not be suitable for younger children. The reason for this rating is because it contains intense action scenes, violence, and some inappropriate language.
The Sea Beast poster
In addition to the trailer, Netflix also unveiled the official movie poster! Both the trailer and poster make it seem apparent there are multiple creatures in the movie, it’ll be interesting to see which one is the actual “sea beast.” I have a feeling at least one or two will be a friend rather than a foe.
The Sea Beast will definitely be one of the best PG-rated movies to come out this year! Stay tuned to Netflix Life for more information on The Sea Beast!
