The Sea Beast cast guide: What do the voice actors look like in real life?

We’re just two days away from one of Netflix’s biggest movies of the summer, The Sea Beast.
The upcoming adventure film is an animated spectacle that is generating tons of positive feedback from critics and early audience reception (the movie released in theaters back in June ahead of its upcoming Netflix debut).
Karl Urban and Zaris-Angel Hator star as the main two characters, legendary monster hunter Jacob Holland and the young, intrepid girl Maisie Brumble who stows away on Holland’s ship. While at sea, Maisie befriends one of the deadliest sea monsters around, changing everything Jacob thought he knew about monsters.
While watching the movie, you might recognize some of the voices and be curious what the actors look like in real life! The following cast guide will help you learn more about who plays who in the film and where you might have seen them before.

Karl Urban as Jacob Holland
This handsome New Zealand actor has been in Hollywood for a long time. He voices the strapping sea-faring monster hunter Jacob Holland. Born on June 7, 1972, Urban is currently 50-years-old.
Where have you seen him before? The actor has been around for a long time. He started in projects like Xena: Warrior Princess and Ghost Ship before progressing to more significant roles. You probably know him as Éomer in The Lord of the Rings franchise or Leonard McCoy in the Star Trek reboot. More recently, Urban has starred in the Prime Video series The Boys. He also appeared in Dredd and Thor: Ragnarok.
What’s next? Urban will return for The Boys season 4 and he will also do another animated role soon with Ark: The Animated Series.

Zaris-Angel Hator as Maisie Brumble
Zaris-Angel Hator is the talented young actress voicing Maisie in The Sea Beast. The 18-year-old first rose to fame after starring in Matilda the Musical in the West End.
Where have you seen her before? Besides Matilda, you might have seen Hator in Victoria or Black Earth Rising. She also recently appeared in Morbius.
What’s next? Hator is set to star as Sima in The Power, the Prime Video thriller series adapted from Naomi Alderman’s best-selling novel of the same name.

Jared Harris as Captain Crow
Jared Harris is a revered British actor who has racked up numerous award nominations across his legendary career. He voices Captain Crow.
Where have you seen him before? Harris is best-known for starring in the HBO miniseries Chernobyl, Mad Men, The Terror, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Fringe, The Crown, The Expanse and Foundation. Most recently he played Emil Nicholas in Morbius.
What’s next? Harris is expected to reprise his role as Professor James Moriarty in the upcoming Sherlock Holmes 3 and the true-story drama about the art world, Rothko, which he’ll star in alongside Aaron Taylor Johnson and Russell Crowe.

Dan Stevens as Admiral Hornagold
Dan Stevens is an acclaimed English actor born on October 10, 1982. The 39-year-old actor is married to Susie Hariet, they have three children together. Stevens first drew international attention when he starred as Matthew Crawley in Downton Abbey. Since then he has gone on to star in numerous films and projects. He voices Admiral Hornagold in The Sea Beast.
Where have you seen him before? Besides Downtown Abbey, Stevens is also known for starring the FX series Legion, which earned significant praise while it was on the air. He also starred in thriller films like The Guest and Netflix’s religious horror Apostle.
Disney fans probably know him best as The Beast in the live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast where he starred opposite of Emma Watson. Other films he’s known for include The Man Who Invested Christmas, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. Most recently, he played John Dean in Starz’s Watergate scandal drama Gaslit.
What’s next? Stevens has been tapped to star in the Hulu limited series Immigrant, about Somen “Steve” Banerjee, the Indian-American entrepreneur who started Chippendales. Kumail Nanjiani will play Banerjee while Stevens will play hustler Paul Snider. He will also reunite with The Guest director Adam Wingard in Legendary’s Godzilla vs. Kong sequel.

Marianne Jean-Baptiste as Sarah Sharpe
English actress Marianne Jean-Baptiste was born on April 26, 1967 and first became known for her role in the 1996 film Secrets & Lies, for which she received multiple nominations, including a Golden Globe, Academy Award and BAFTA. The accomplished 55-year-old actress is married to Evan Williams and she has two children. She voices Sarah Sharpe.
Where have you seen her before? Jean-Baptiste starred in the series Without a Trace as Vivian Johnson for several years and has since starred on other shows like Blindspot and Prime Video’s Homecoming. She also has a recurring role in Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan series as Elizabeth Wright.
What’s next? She will next appear in the Apple TV+ psychological thriller series Surface in a leading role opposite Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Oliver Jackson-Cohen. Other projects in the works include the action-thriller Rumble Through the Dark with Bella Thorne and Aaron Eckhart, and the BBC drama series The Following Events Are Based On A Pack Of Lies.
Kathy Burke as Gwen Batterbie
Kathy Burke is a 58-year-old English actress, comedian, writer and director known for her appearances on sketch shows like Absolutely Fabulous and French and Saunders. Born on June 13, 1964, Burke has won several awards throughout her career, such as the Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival for her work in the 1997 movie Nil by Mouth for which she also received a BAFTA nom.
Where have you seen her before? Burke made her film debut in the 1982 drama Scrubbers, but she is probably best known for playing Magda in Absolutely Fabulous. She has also starred in other films like Pan, Once Upon a Time in the Midlands, The Martins, Anita and Me and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. On television, you might have seen her in the BBC sitcom Gimme Gimme Gimme, which earned her a British Comedy Award and two BAFTA nominations.
What’s next? Burke recently directed the new ITV series Holding, based on the best-selling novel by Graham Norton.
