Stranger Things season 5 is not coming to Netflix in July 2022

Stranger Things season 4 has come to an explosive end with the release of volume 2 on Friday, July 1, 2022. The super-sized season finale left fans wanting even more from the massive series, and now we have to wait patiently for Stranger Things season 5 — the final season.

For those still wondering, yes: Stranger Things will be back for one more season on Netflix. The streamer announced that Stranger Things season 5 was renewed along with the fact that it would also be the final season in February 2022.

Now that the long awaited fourth season has come and gone after that three-year wait, all eyes will be on season 5. In the wake of the shocking and game-changing finale, more news about season 5 will come from The Duffer Brothers and the cast will surely come to light.

Unfortunately, the Upside Down’s lightning doesn’t strike twice, and Stranger Things season 5 won’t be coming to Netflix in July 2022 along with the two-part season 4 finale. Until it does, turn on “Running Up That Hill” and make your boldest predictions, which we have below.

Stranger Things season 5 release updates

Obviously, Stranger Things season 5 has not started filming as of July 2022, but The Duffer Brothers have been deep into preparation for the upcoming final season and have shared small details about being in the writing process for the grand finale.

After finishing Stranger Things season 4, The Duffer Brothers completed an outline for season 5 and have the final run fully mapped out ahead of production. It’s a huge undertaking bringing a series, and a mythology, as massive as Stranger Things to a fitting ending.

As for a release date, The Duffer Brothers have promised that fans won’t have to wait nearly as long for season 5 as they did for season 4. While that definitely means three years is off the table, we’re inclined to believe we might be waiting until at least 2024 for the final season.

Based on the length of time filming and post-production took for the super-sized episodes of season 4, we’re going to proceed with caution going into Stranger Things season 5 and still expect a sizable wait. The season definitely won’t be released one calendar year from now.

Netflix has always released Stranger Things in the summertime, save for season 2’s release in late October. We can bank on another summer drop or a return to a fall release, but no matter when the episodes are released, fans will be ready to see how the it all comes to an end.
