It’s time to celebrate, Netflix fans, because The Umbrella Academy season 3 is finally here! Get your popcorn ready for what’s about to be an epic binge. This time around, our favorite siblings might not be stuck in another time period, but that doesn’t mean they won’t face their fair share of challenges. Namely, the Sparrow Academy, who we’re briefly introduced to at the end of season 2.

As we saw in The Umbrella Academy season 3 trailer, it’s not going to be easy for the Umbrellas and Sparrows to get along, but they find common ground once they realize they’re up against something even worse than sibling rivalry. And yup, they have to save the world again.

Spoilers ahead for The Umbrella Academy season 3.

The threat of the Kugelblitz and their mutual distrust for their dad Reginald (Colm Feore) brings the Umbrellas and Sparrows together, but that’s not all. Luther (Tom Hopper) strikes up a romance with Sloane (Genesis Rodriguez), which eventually is accepted by their families. It’s really sweet to see Luther find someone after everything he’s been through with his dad and Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), and he’s able to open up to Sloane about the hard times in his life. He tells her all about the moon and she finds it really interesting that he lived there.

While the Sparrows and Umbrellas continue to work together to stop the Kugelblitz, we start to realize that Reginald might actually be behind it all. He comes up with a plan to save the world which involves everyone entering the secret door in the Buffalo Suite at Hotel Obsidian to another dimension, a.k.a. Hotel Oblivion. The only catch is that there’s something called The Guardian on the other side, a deadly monster who already chopped Diego’s (David Castañeda) fingers off.

On Luther and Sloane’s wedding night, a drunken Number Five (Aidan Gallagher) stumbles upstairs and overhears his dad making a deal with someone. Even though he’s intoxicated, he remembers the next day and is very suspicious. Klaus (Robert Sheehan), on the other hand, is the only sibling who bonds with this Reginald and tries to get the group to let him in.

Who kills Luther in The Umbrella Academy season 3?

Five doesn’t trust Reginald, but before he gets the chance to do anything about his suspicions, the unimaginable happens. Luther is killed. Though no one else sees it, the viewer watches as Reginald stabs Luther through the chest, making it seem like The Guardian did it. And the saddest part of it all is that he kills him right after they have a heart-to-heart. This version of Reginald is pure evil.

The Umbrella Academy season 3 ending explained: Is Luther alive?

But don’t be too sad, everyone! In the final moments of The Umbrella Academy season 3, the siblings are transported to another timeline and Luther is very much alive! And that’s not all. He has a normal body now! As explained by Number Five, Reginald succeeds in resetting the universe, meaning the siblings are alive and together again, but none of them have their powers. Diego can’t use his knives and Klaus is no longer immortal. It’s very bittersweet.

The worst news is that Sloane is no longer in this timeline, meaning Luther can’t be with her. We’ll be curious to see whether or not they’re reunited in The Umbrella Academy season 4 — that is, if another season is announced. At this time, the show has not been renewed yet. Season 3 ends pretty shortly after the siblings find themselves in their new reality, so there’s a lot that could happen next.

We’re so happy Luther survives after all! You can stream all 10 episodes of The Umbrella Academy season 3 right now on Netflix.
