15 best shows Netflix needs to reboot (from the past 15 years)
Girlfriends
Girlfriends is arguably one of the best Black sitcoms airing from the early to mid-2000s. Actually, it is one of the best Black sitcoms of all time. It’ll easily remind you of Living Single or Sex and the City. The story follows the lives of a group of close-knit friends as they navigate friendships, careers, and relationships in Los Angeles. The show was very funny but still had its teachable moments. It explored important topics like colorism, race and identity, feminism, etc.
But what I really liked about the show was that it showed the importance of having girlfriends. Your girlfriends are there to lift you up when times are bad and help you put the pieces back together. The show was well written and the chemistry between the four main leads was incredible and believable. Honestly, Girlfriends was ahead of its time and has helped pave the way for current Black sitcoms and shows. We need more positive representation of Black people in the media, and a Girlfriends reboot would be perfect.
The Secret Circle
The Secret Circle‘s cancellation hit me hard because it was one of the best shows on The CW at the time. Many of the cast members from the show I had already known from previous shows and enjoyed their work. The main cast included Life Unexpected‘s Britt Robertson, Thomas Dekker, Gale Harold, The Originals‘ Phoebe Tonkin, Shelley Hennig, and The Flash‘s Jessica Parker Kennedy. The fantasy teen drama was given a 22-episode season order in October 2011 but was canceled in May 2012. The story begins with a young teenager who, after moving to a small town, finds out that she’s a witch and joins a secret coven.
With an interesting plot, great cast, and amazing special effects, I thought there was no way the show would be canceled. It came out during a time when vampires, werewolves, and witches were all that people were talking about. After the success of The Vampire Diaries, I thought it would be The CW’s next big series. Unfortunately, The CW canceled the series after one season due to a combination of low viewership numbers, costly special effects, and expensive location shooting.
