Even though Valentine’s Day gets the most attention as a holiday, its companion holiday deserves just as much love. Parks and Recreation’s Leslie Knope founded Galentine’s Day, which falls on Feb. 13 and celebrates the romance of friendship.

Galentine’s Day isn’t technically a real holiday, but when Leslie Knope puts something on the calendar, it’s as good as fact. Thankfully, there’s as much content to consume for Galentine’s Day on Netflix as there is for Valentine’s Day.

If you’re not sharing Feb. 14 with a significant other this year, it’s the perfect time to ring in the holiday with your best friends and some good Netflix shows. From comedies to romantic dramas, love is most certainly in the air no matter what you choose to watch.

Netflix shows to watch and skip Galentine’s Day 2022

Whether you’re looking for Netflix shows that celebrate the beauty of friendship or dig into the messiness of those same friendships, there’s something for everyone to watch (or skip!) this Galentine’s Day. Let’s start with our favorite Netflix friends from Sweet Magnolias below.

Sweet Magnolias

Watch! Sweet Magnolias season 2 finally premiered on Feb. 4 and reunited fans with the titular trio of besties from the fictional small town of Serenity, South Carolina. The new season answers all of our questions from last season’s cliffhangers, but the best part of the series has to be the unconditional friendship between Maddie, Dana Sue, and Helen.

Girlfriends

Watch! Gather all of your best girlfriends and watch Girlfriends on Netflix this Galentine’s Day. The sitcom premiered in 2000 on UPN and ran for eight seasons, with the final two airing on The CW. Black-ish star Tracee Ellis Ross headlines the ensemble comedy about a group of best friends dealing with everything from love and career as a unit.

Firefly Lane

Skip! Firefly Lane stars Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke as best friends with a complicated past and present. The series premiered in early 2021 and will return with its follow-up season in 2022. While it’s an entertaining watch, we recommend saving this one for closer to the season 2 release date since it’s a tad dramatic for Galentine’s Day.

Emily in Paris season 2

Emily in Paris

Watch! There’s really not a bad holiday to watch Emily in Paris, and we stand behind that claim. Christmas, Valentine’s Day, even Halloween — you can’t go wrong with Emily! Even though the show centers on the title character’s ups and downs in love, the true love story of the series is the friendship between Emily and her best friend Mindy.

Charmed

Skip! What’s better than three strong women who are sisters AND witches working in unison to save the world from evil? Charmed revamps the original series of the same name, which aired on The WB from 1998 to 2006. The CW’s reboot is totally worth watching, but on this particular day, you might want to opt for the original or save the supernatural stuff for another day.

Dead to Me season 3

Dead to Me

Watch! Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini are two of our most dynamic actresses working today, and to see them combine their powers for the incredible dark comedy Dead to Me has been nothing short of magical. Don’t sleep on the twisted best friendship of their characters Jen and Judy, especially since the third and final season is arriving “soon.”

Never Have I Ever

Watch! Sure, one of the most buzzy-worthy aspects of Never Have I Ever is its central love triangle between Devi, Ben, and Paxton. There’s nothing co-creator Mindy Kaling does better than craft an intriguing romantic comedy. But once again, the true love story of the teen comedy series is that of Devi and her best friends Eleanor and Fabiola.

Grace and Frankie

Skip! The only reason we’re suggesting to skip Grace and Frankie this Galentine’s Day revolves around the question mark surrounding the final season’s release date. Four episodes were released in August 2021, but the remaining 12 await release. Unless you want to rewatch your favorite episodes, skip the veteran comedy until new episodes premiere.

Pretty Smart

Watch! Last but not least, we once again suggest watching the underrated Netflix original sitcom Pretty Smart. From the romantic will-they-or-won’t-theys to the strong core friendships, the series has everything you could ever want on Galentine’s and/or Valentine’s Day. Trust us, this one’s a one-stop watch for an easy binge, laugh, and swoon.
