Hush

This film was written by Mike Flanagan and Kate Siegel, who also stars in the movie.

Maddie (Siegel) is a deaf author who lost her ability to speak and hear from bacterial meningitis. After the success of her recent book Midnight Mass (yes, that one!), she seeks solitude in a house in the woods to start her next book.

This film is scary because we see things from Maddie’s perspective, and not hearing what is going on heightens the scare factor. This is a wild ride of home invasion and slasher combined.

If you like Flanagan’s other works, The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass, we highly recommend this movie.

Before I Wake

Another Mike Flanagan film, Before I Wake, stars Thomas Jane, known for his many horror roles, and Kate Bosworth as parents who foster a child who is terrified to fall asleep.

When Mark and Jessie foster an eight-year-old boy, Cody, they learn he is afraid to go to sleep at night. Thinking this is just a natural fear that some children experience, they disregard it as anything series. When strange things start to occur and they relate it to Cody being asleep, they dive deeper to discover that Cody’s dreams can somehow become a reality but so can his nightmares.

But, this isn’t only a horror film. It is a beautiful story of life and how fragile it can be, and that we must make every moment count. It is a unique film that is very well done.
