Once upon a summer 2021, Manifest landed on Netflix and quickly took over the streaming world. The series, which was canceled by NBC, found a new home on the streaming service after becoming one of the most popular series ever on the platform — no big deal.

But once Manifest attained popularity on Netflix, may viewers who had never checked out the series on NBC started watching with little to no context for what the series is about, much less if the show has scary moments throughout its current three seasons.

While we wouldn’t classify Manifest as a horror series by any means, there are some infrequent instances of imagery that some viewers might find scary. For the most part, the show is a drama with leanings in both the supernatural and science fiction genres.

But what imagery might some viewers find frightening, and what age groups should be permitted to watch the show? We’ll tell you everything you need to know about Manifest’s most thrilling moments and if you should keep the lights on while binge-watching.

Is Manifest on Netflix a scary show?

Most viewers will not find Manifest scary, though there are definitely some scenes that will have your spine tingling a little bit. For starters, if you have a fear of flying, then maybe this show isn’t for you. But if you’re cool with that, you shouldn’t be covering your eyes.

The third season features a few chilling moments, such as when blood runs from Saanvi’s eyes and three characters evaporate into plumes of black smoke (to say the least). Cal‘s calling, which includes three shadow people closing in on him, is just about as scary as it gets.

Apart from the occasional character death, whether from drowning or freezing, there’s nothing as scary as something you would find in American Horror Story or Midnight Mass. Of course, Manifest isn’t appropriate for younger viewers given its TV-14 rating, but mature viewers won’t fall victim to jump scares.

Manifest probably isn’t the kind of show you would want to watch to ring in the Halloween season since it isn’t scary, but there’s never a bad time to watch the new Netflix original series. Maybe the upcoming fourth and final season will turn up the scary factor just a little.
