Is Ozark season 5 happening?

Fans have been waiting patiently since we last got new episodes to see Ozark season 4 part 2. Now that the Netflix original is making its return on Friday, April 29, most are now wondering, is Ozark season 5 happening?

Set in the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, Ozark follows Marty Byrde, played by Jason Bateman, Wendy Byrde, played by Laura Linney, and their family as they attempt to please the Navarro cartel by cleaning money, and ultimately save their lives. Each season, the Byrdes dig themselves deeper into the hole, setting up laundering operations, getting into business with the local mafia and drug operations, and above all, trying to maintain some semblance of family life.

Complicating matters, Marty and Wendy have to balance the feisty temper of local Ruth Langmore, played by Julia Garner, with her loyalty and their best interests. With a mounting number of deaths that fall on their hands, the Byrdes appear to be closing in on their final fate.

Fans of Breaking Bad and other character-rich dramas can sense the desperation in the Byrdes’ choices and actions, but cannot live without getting more of this dysfunctional family.

Season 1 premiered in 2017, with each subsequent season released about one year later. The COVID-19 pandemic then delayed filming and the release of season 4. If you’ve been following along, you’ll know that Ozark season 4 was split into two parts with seven episodes each, with part 1 premiering in Jan. 2022 and the second half releasing on April 29, 2022.

Is Ozark season 4 the last season?

Unfortunately for crime drama lovers, Ozark season 5 is not happening. The fourth season was announced in June 2020, and at that time Netflix revealed they were ending the series, marking season 4 as the show’s final chapter.

That means the seven episodes released on April 29 will be the last for Ozark, and hopefully that means they’ll be great ones. Though the show has done well with critics overall and has even received multiple Emmy Award wins, some of the episodes can be hit or miss. Ozark season 4 part 1 is a little slow considering we’re nearing the end, but episode 7 really raises the stakes. It looks like the Byrdes might not get out of this thing after all, but we’ll have to wait until season 4 part 2 releases to know for sure.
