The long awaited Aretha Franklin biopic, Respect, has finally made its debut!

The movie starring Jennifer Hudson as the Queen of Soul, takes viewers through the music legend’s life starting with her upbringing in the church which imbued the singer with her signature sound.

However, there is no skipping past the hardships in Aretha’s career from its flagging start to the stress in her private life due to an abusive marriage. The woman best known for how her voice could shout down the rooftops dealt with both strife and triumph as she made her name in the music industry.

But Aretha didn’t solely focus on her career, she also participated in the social movements of her time like the Civil Rights movement, lending her voice to the call for equal treatment under the law for people of color.

If you’d like to pay the Queen respect by watching her biopic, here’s how to view the movie.

Is Respect streaming on Netflix?

Due to the ongoing pandemic, a good portion of Hollywood’s tentpole titles have been slated for simultaneous streamer releases and premiere dates in theaters. While the majority of streamers have allowed their subscribers access without additional cost, Disney+ has mostly opted to give Premier Access to titles via a fee.

There have, however, been movies like A Quiet Place 2 and Free Guy that have been theaters only releasez. They aren’t available to stream whether attached to a subscription service or behind an additional pay wall. Respect is one such movie and as such isn’t on Netflix.

In order to view Aretha Franklin’s biopic, a theater visit is required. Currently, there’s no word on when Respect will transition to a streaming home nor has there been an announcement on which streamer it will land on.

A Quiet Place 2 moved to Paramount+ nearly two months after its theatrical release. So, Respect could be released digitally sometime in the late fall or early winter in time for the holiday season.
