Outer Banks season 2 is even more of a ride than the show’s first season. From episode to episode, the Pogues are met with danger, life threatening situations, and a chance at cashing in on two separate treasures.

The twists this season also include surprise reveals, the kind that turn the plot upside down and will have lasting affects on the characters. However, there’s one plot resurrection that’s sure to change Outer Banks as we know it if the show is renewed for a season 3.

Season ending reveals tell you so much about where the show is going and this one is a big reveal.

Here’s who rose again like Lazarus in Outer Banks season 2.

Spoilers ahead for Outer Banks season 2

For two seasons, John B. has mourned the loss of his father. First, when all he knew was that he was lost at sea. Then when it was confirmed that not only did his father die, but he was murdered by Ward Cameron.

The truth of that accident turned crime put John B. in the hard position of going after Ward knowing that it would hurt his girlfriend, Sarah, Ward’s daughter.

As the plot twisted last season, Ward stole the Royal Merchant treasure from the Pogues, framed John B. for the murder of Sheriff Peterkin, and did everything in his power to ruin John B.’s life to save his and Rafe’s own positions in the community.

In the season 2 finale, John B. has the opportunity to avenge his father, but it’s his love for Sarah that stops him. It’s a good thing that it did because it turns out his dad, Big John Routledge, isn’t dead.

Ward had tossed his body overboard thinking he’d accidentally killed him in their fight. As a result, Big John ended up stranded on an island where we thought he died of exposure and dehydration. However, that wasn’t the case. Someone saved him though we don’t know who.

He contacted Limbrey, presumably informing her that he’s alive. In exchange for helping her find the shroud she thinks will cure her degenerative disease, she has to help his son. Season 2 ends there, but the audience is privy to information Big John likely doesn’t know.

Limbrey has already crossed paths with the Pogues in her quest to obtain the shroud. She’s holding more cards than he is at the moment which has us intrigued about how she could “help” John B. in Outer Banks season 3. She isn’t exactly welcome around the Pogues considering all she did to take the cross out from under them before losing it herself.

The reveal that Big John is alive is great set up for a third season. Hopefully, Netflix renews Outer Banks. We’ll keep you posted on renewal news and information on season 3 as it comes in.
