Outer Banks season 2 is set to crash onto Netflix like a tidal wave at the end of July. The teen crime drama will make a welcome return as it’s been one of the streamer’s most anticipated titles to make a landing in 2021.

The show, centered on a legendary treasure and the five teens in search of it, became a hit on the platform after its debut in April 2020.

Who’d have thought a series set in a coastal North Carolinian town would make such a splash? But it’s high stakes and pedal to the metal energy paired with the connection between the Pogues, has garnered quite the fan base.

Besides the chemistry between the cast and phenomenal writing, much of the show’s success can be chalked up to how different it is from other teen dramas on Netflix and on TV as a whole.

Action adventure isn’t a genre typically explored in teen media outside of thrillers and paranormal dramas. As such Outer Banks has carved out its own lane. It’s no wonder fans are clamoring for season 2. Thankfully, the wait is almost over. Here’s what to expect from the second season.

Outer Banks season 2 synopsis

The official synopsis for the second season via Netflix:

"After their near-death escape, Season Two finds John B & Sarah on the run – and in over their heads – in the Bahamas. New friends also bring new foes as they’re back on the trail of the gold, while the stakes for Kiara, Pope, and JJ rapidly escalate at home. The $400M is still in the game, but will the uncovering of a new-found secret reunite the group for a fresh mission? The adventure of a lifetime awaits, but uncharted waters ahead mean our Pogues must do all they can to make it out alive."

Yes, that means we’re back in the G game, y’all. For how long is anyone’s guess, but John B. and Sarah’s fortuitous land on a boat headed to Nassau, Bahamas put them on a course for another go at the gold Ward stole.

However, the Royal Merchant treasure isn’t the only fortune worth paying attention to. Jonathan Daviss, who plays Pope, spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the teen’s own adventure ripe with riches.

"I was really excited about this year and getting a chance to attack this story. Just like how last season’s mission was personal for John B, this season has a personal connection to Pope. He spends this season making sure justice is served. It was everything to me."

Are the hills of the Outer Banks full of treasure? It seems like it considering these kids seem to be stumbling into one quest after another. We’d say that’s luck but when these twists and turns could mean their lives, it’s hard to say whether coming into long lost riches is a good thing.

At least they have each other on this wild ride.
