Get ready to head back to North Carolina, Netflix fans! The teen drama series Outer Banks is returning for its second season this July, and people are already speculating on all the twists and turns we might see next. As you might recall, season 1 ended on a hopeful note for John B. and Sarah, who were taken in by a boat headed to the Bahamas.

Of course, their Pogue friends back home — Kiara, JJ, and Pope — don’t know that John B. and Sarah made it out safely, and as the first Outer Banks season 2 teaser trailer showed, they very much think the two are dead. We’re not sure what will happen to our main characters in the second installment, but we cannot wait to find out.

One of the many plot points fans have been wondering about is the future of John B. and Sarah’s relationship. It certainly wasn’t love at first sight for the pair in season 1, as Sarah is a Kook and the daughter of John B.’s then-boss, Ward. As it turned out, we learned by the end of the first season that Ward actually killed John B.’s dad, which is bound to cause some friction between him and Sarah.

Sarah took John B.’s side in the first season, but what will go down between them in Outer Banks season 2?

Will John B. and Sarah break up in Outer Banks season 2?

Though John B. and Sarah look perfectly happy and in love together in the first teaser trailer for Outer Banks season 2, their relationship is surely about to be tested as they continue to be on the run together. We’re assuming they’re in the Bahamas by the start of the second installment, but living on your own and having to figure out life as a fugitive is no easy feat.

Plus, Madelyn Cline, the actress who plays Sarah, teased that trouble could be brewing for the couple. While speaking to Seventeen in May 2020, Cline was asked if we could see a love triangle in season 2, to which she shared:

"“I think it would be interesting to see Topper still kind of having a bit of a soft side for Sarah and what kind of tension that might bring up. You never know what might happen to John B and Sarah. If the things that they’ve been running from catch up to them, that puts stress on their new relationship and who knows if they will survive that. I love a good love triangle. I would also really love to see Sarah come into her own and not necessarily need a relationship if things go south with John B.”"

Whether it be a love triangle with Topper involved or John B. and Sarah splitting for another reason, we’re not expecting everything to be smooth sailing for the pair the whole second season. Yes, they love each other, but they’re going through something no one their age is equipped to handle. At any age, their situation is extremely dangerous and scary, and given the fact that they’re still teenagers who are quick to react, I see some drama ahead.

But, who knows? Maybe John B. and Sarah will remain thick as thieves and their relationship will last in Outer Banks season 2. We’ll just have to wait and see!
