Moxie is Netflix’s latest book-to-movie adaptation. It’s based on the young adult novel of the same name by Jennifer Mattieu about a teen girl trying to make a change in her high school. The movie hits Netflix tonight (March 3, 2021).

Moxie stars Hadley Robinson, Amy Poehler, Lauren Tsai, Alycia Pascual-Pena, Nico Haraga, Sabrina Haskett, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Sydney Park. Amy Poehler also directed the film. It’s her second time in the director’s chair for a feature film. The first being for another Netflix movie, Wine Country.

Moxie tells the story of Vivien, a shy teenage girl just trying to get through high school without being noticed. Her feelings are understandable considering all the boys in her school rank the girls based on their looks. But this year, Vivien has had enough.

Inspired by her mother’s Riot grrrl past, Vivien makes an anonymous zine discussing the sexist and misogynistic issues at her school and why it needs to change. She doesn’t expect it to blow up or that it will actually cause some things to change One girl can cause a revolution!

What time is Moxie coming to Netflix?

Moxie premieres on Netflix at 12:01 a.m. PT on March 3, 2021.

What starts as a zine, turns into a movement. Vivien and quite a few of her classmates join forces to fight back against the administration and some of the boys who are the worst perpetrators of the toxic sexism in the hallways.

Having read Moxie last year, I could not be more excited about this movie. No spoilers, but there’s a protest scene near the end of the book that I cannot wait to see on screen.

The book came out in 2017 but the message in it is still tragically relevant and needed. Hopefully, the movie allows that message to reach an even bigger audience.
