What is Moxie about?

The upcoming Amy Poehler-directed movie, Moxie, will be released in just a couple of days, but what is the movie about? Lace up your boots and put on your fave ’90s riot grrrrl rock band, here’s what you need to know.

Moxie is adapted from the novel of the same name by Jennifer Mathieu. You know those stories from schools about how a girl is sent home for a wearing a tank top to class because it would be a “distraction” to the boys? The high school of Vivian Carter (Hadley Robinson) is even more blatantly sexist than that.

Led by the sexist football star Mitchell (Patrick Schwarzenegger), the boys have a list on the “hottest” girls at school, which painfully shy Vivian tries to avoid and keep her head down.

When seeing a new girl (Alycia Pascual-Peña) get harrassed but refusing to back down from the boys, Vivian digs into her mother’s revolutionary past in order to make her own zine entitled, what else, Moxie.

What to expect on Moxie on Netflix

Vivian kicks off a revolution as Moxie gains a groundswell of support in order to fight against the systemic sexist status quo, and upend the social hierarchy of high school once and for all.

If you remember all the stupid things that a teenage girl had to go through in high school, then Moxie is definitely here to give you catharsis in the best way possible. Again, you’re really gonna get mad about a girl wearing a tank top when it’s warm outside?

This is why college is better. No weird dress codes that you have to memorize, you know? Just show up mostly clothed and you’re golden.

The cast for Moxie also includes Lauren Tsai, Nico Hiraga, Sydney Park, Josephine Langrod, Clark Gregg, Josie Totah, Marcia Gay Harden, and Ike Barinholtz.

Moxie will be released on Netflix on Wednesday, March 3.
