11. Bridgerton

Based on the popularity of Bridgerton, peoples’ interest in romance is alive and well. What better way to celebrate the day of love and romance than by binge-watching one of the most romantic shows on Netflix.

The romance drama is based on the Bridgerton book series by Julia Quinn and stars Rege-Jean Page, Phoebe Dynevor, Jonathan Bailey, Harriet Cains, Bessie Carter, Nicola Coughlan, Ruth Gemmell, Florence Hunt, Claudia Jessie, Luke Newton, Luke Thompson, Will Tilston, Ruby Barker, and Adjoa Andoh.

The first season tells the story from the first book, The Duke and I. It follows Daphne Bridgerton as she’s presented to the queen and looks for a husband. Unfortunately, all the suitors that could be suitable are deemed inappropriate by her brother, Anthony. Going behind his back, Daphne and her mother work to make a connection between her and the Duke of Hastings, Simon Bassett.

Little does her mother know that Daphne has also reached an agreement with Simon to pretend to court. It takes the pressure off of both of them from their respective families, the gossip rags, and will make the other suitors jealous and want to steal Daphne away from the duke

As anyone who’s ever read or watched something with fake dating/courting in it, the couple is bound to catch real feelings for each other and that’s what happens here as well.

But their newfound love does not mean that all is happily ever after in their relationship. With the trauma Simon faced in his past and Daphne’s lack of experience with relationships and sex, there is plenty of conflict and issues to be had.

If you’re looking for a series to binge-watch that features a lot of romance, but also some scandal and critiques of society at the time, Bridgerton is definitely a show you want to check out on Valentine’s Day.
