Romantic Netflix shows: Anne with an E

At first blush, Anne with an E may seem an unlikely choice for a romantic show pick. However, while the romance between Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe is somewhat downplayed in Netflix’s adaptation of L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables series of books, their romantic undercurrent is very much still there.

Sadly, we won’t get to continue watching Anne, Diana, Gilbert, Ruby, Jane, Moody and all the rest of Anne’s Prince Edward Island classmates on their coming-of-age journey. Netflix canceled Anne with an E after season 3. As Anne might say, “What a most tragical turn of events!”

Romantic Netflix shows: Dash & Lily

The young adult Dash & Lily Book of Dares series by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan is the inspiration for this romantic Netflix show. A romance blooms between two New York City teenagers during Christmas when Dash finds a notebook Lily has left in the Strand Bookstore. Written on the front is “Do you dare?”

That could also be the start of a scary horror movie, but it’s instead the beginning of a scavenger hunt that leads to love.

Romantic Netflix movies: Rebecca

What? Remake the classic Hitchcock version of Rebecca based on the romantic suspense novel by Daphne du Maurier? Yep. That’s what Netflix did, and they didn’t botch it either!

Director Ben Wheatley added his own flair, of course, but overall he stayed true to the love story between Maxim de Winter and his second wife, and the complications the ghost of his first wife, Rebecca, causes from beyond her grave.
