Mark your calendars for Feb. 24, 2021! That’s when Ginny and Georgia premieres on Netflix.

Netflix just released the trailer for the upcoming teen drama Ginny and Georgia and many have been comparing it to the likes of Gilmore Girls. This new Netflix original series, created by newcomer Sarah Lampert, will consist of ten episodes and is expected to be filled with witty banter and teen angst.

The focal point of this new Netflix Original is the mother-and-daughter pair, Georgia and Ginny Miller. In the show’s trailer, the mother compares them to Gilmore Girls’ Lorelei and Rory. Georgia tells her daughter, “We’re like the Gilmore Girls but with bigger boobs!”

Unlike Gilmore Girls, Ginny and Georgia will have a dark twist: The trio seems to be on the run from something or someone.

Ginny and Georgia trailer

On the Netflix website, Ginny and Georgia is described as:

"“Free-spirited Georgia and her two kids, Ginny and Austin, move north in search of a fresh start but find that the road to new beginnings can be bumpy.”"

In the trailer, 15-year-old Ginny (Antonia Gentry) is shown lounging in a hanging wicker chair telling someone off-screen, “We move a lot, so I’m always the new girl.”

Then towards the end of the trailer, the show’s casual energy changes into something more serious. In a voiceover, the young and “hot” family matriarch Georgia (Brianne Howey) says, “I’ve done things I’m not proud of, but I’d do them again. I’d be anything to protect my kids” and a montage shows her getting nervous in the presence of a police officer, strapping cash to her legs with a garter belt, and playing with fire.

Could Ginny and Georgia be everyone’s next Netflix obsession?

In a statement from the show’s executive producer Debra J. Fisher, she shared, “It’s a show with smart women who are funny and complicated and troubled and intense and have dimension and agency.”

Fisher goes on to explain the show, saying:

"“It has drama, mystery, darkness, humor, and living room dance parties. It’s an entertaining, addictive, juicy ride among the intrigue and suspense. At the core of the series, it’s a great binge escape — especially if you pair it with a nice Cabernet!”"

If there’s anything we need right now, it’s definitely a new bingeable show! Judging by the Ginny & Georgia trailer, it’s clear that the show will be filled with fun high school characters, riveting family dynamics, and amusing one-liners. A classic coming-of-age story.
