2. Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu

A feminist revolution, directed by Amy Poehler, is coming to Netflix in March. Based on the book of the same name, Moxie is set at a Texan high school where one student is taking a cue from her mother’s past. Tired of the gender-based double standards, sexist dress-codes, and accepted harassment at her school, Vivian decides to take a stand.

In the book, Vivian’s course of action involves publishing an anonymous zine as a nod to her mom’s Riot Grrrl days. It’ll be interesting to see if the film adaptation takes the same route and has Vivian distribute her work around school. Or if they’ll take her activism online creating a community of fed up girls both in school and, potentially, across the country.

Moxie will be available to stream March 3

3. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

We’re three months out from Shadow and Bone‘s premiere in April. Though we don’t have an exact release date, Netflix was kind enough to give us a teaser as an early Christmas present. Bardugo’s Grishaverse, which spans two series of books, is sure to appeal to fans of dark fantasies, teens or otherwise.

Check out the official summary of the series:

"In a world cleaved in two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness, where unnatural creatures feast on human flesh, a young soldier uncovers a power that might finally unite her country. But as she struggles to hone her power, dangerous forces plot against her. Thugs, thieves, assassins and saints are at war now, and it will take more than magic to survive."

We’re curious to see how Shadow and Bone will blend storylines from its source material along with tying in beloved characters from Bardugo’s Six of Crows. With an impending war and a heist, we have a lot to look forward to with this series!

Shadow and Bone will be available to stream in April (release date yet to be announced)
