2. The Queen’s Gambit

The very talented Anya Taylor Joy, who fans will recognize from The New Mutants film, stars in one of the most-watched series on Netflix in 2020 and a sure-fire awards agent titled The Queen’s Gambit.

The show is based on the book of the same name written by someone and follows an orphan girl who turns out to be a chess prodigy. The series, which broke the streaming service’s daily top ten a total of 47 times, is a superb experience, and with a magnificent cast, striking period-accurate aesthetics, and a gripping narrative, it is no wonder The Queen’s Gambit is a genius New Year’s Day choice.

3. Alice in Borderland

Alice in Borderland is an action-packed, mind-bending thrill ride based on the popular Japanese manga that every Netflix subscriber needs to stop sleeping on.

The Japanese sci-fi thriller series follows a group of delinquent teenagers transported to an abandoned Tokyo. While there, they are forced to lay life-threatening games in order to survive and must find a way to overcome these insurmountable odds. Shinsuke Sato, who is known for his work on Kingdom, I Am Hero, Bleach, and a Death Note miniseries is helming the live-action adaptation, which just adds to the many reasons that make Alice in Borderland an ideal New Year’s Day option.
