If you love reality shows about young people trying to find a love connection, then chances are you’ve either seen or heard about a little series called Are You The One?. Originally broadcasted by MTV, Are You The One? premiered on January 21, 2014. The show was presented by Ryan Devlin for the first five seasons, after which Terrence J  became the presenter. You can find 2 seasons of the show on Netflix.

The premise of the series is fairly unique when compared to other reality dating shows. Producers discreetly pair contestants together using a matchmaking program, after which the men and women are left to live together and go on dates to figure out all of the correct matches. If the group can correctly guess all of the couple configurations, then they succeed and everyone shares a prize of up to $1 million.

Unlike The Bachelor, which is painfully heteronormative, the eighth season of Are You The One? paired up same-sex couples. I appreciate such a forward-thinking premise, especially when so many dating shows don’t feature members of the LGBT community.
