The Haunting of Bly Manor

I know some people will scream at me for including this, but I thoroughly enjoyed The Haunting of Bly Manor. It wasn’t exactly what The Turn of the Screw was, but then neither was The Haunting of Hill House.

As pointed out at the end, The Haunting of Bly Manor wasn’t a ghost story. It was a love story with a few ghosts thrown in. There were still all those ghosts in the backdrops that you needed to look out for—and you’re not telling me that you didn’t do that throughout the series.

One thing that stood out for me was Owen and Hannah. We got a show that had two people of color where their color wasn’t a huge part of the narrative. They just were. They were accepted, they had their own important storylines, and they were handled with care like all the other characters. More showrunners and writers need to take notes.

The Umbrella Academy

When you want a superhero series, there’s nothing better than The Umbrella Academy. The second season dropped during the summer of 2020 and was just as epic as it promised to be. In fact, the season was much stronger than the first, offering more character, power, and universe development.

While the characters were scattered through time, they eventually caught up with each other. We got to see them deal with the pain and trauma from the first season and move forward as a group, as a family.

The great news is the show has been renewed for a third season. That’s a great thing because we need to know who the Sparrow Academy is.
