Barbarians

Some great Netflix dramas of 2020 are foreign-language offerings. Barbarians is the one that you need to check out, especially if you love the likes of The Last Kingdom and Vikings.

This German-language series follows three people during the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, a war that saw the Germanic warriors attempt to prevent the Roman Empire taking over. It’s not just about the survival of people but about the survival of cultures.

Like other historical fiction, there are elements embellished or changed for dramatic purposes, but that’s okay! It’s fiction. It’s all about the story, and this one will have you binge-watching all episodes in one go.

Barbarians season 2 is happening.

Lucifer

After a relatively long wait, Lucifer Season 5A dropped during 2020. While it was only eight episodes, it was still packed with drama, sultry romance, and butt-kicking. We got more of the family show up, and saw Lucifer accept what he really wanted.

The show also felt like it got back to doing what it does best. We saw Chloe back in her element of solving crimes. We saw Ella back in her element of forensics.

Yet, there were a lot of elements changed. The show continued to explore Maze’s emotions, especially her misplaced anger. We got more growth for each of the characters, and it only makes us need more from this show.

The only downside of the season was Eve not showing up. Honestly, we need Maze and Eve back together pronto.

It’s not clear how long we’re waiting for Lucifer Season 5B, but we can be safe in the knowledge that the season will be just as good.
