Stranger Things cast: Sean Astin

Sean Astin joined the cast of Stranger Things way back in season 2. In the series, Astin played Bob Newby, also known by the nicknames Superhero and Bob the Brain. Bob was Joyce’s boyfriend, and he helped the gang figure out what was happening with Will and the Mind Flayer.

We’re unlikely to see Astin in Stranger Things again unless it’s in flashbacks. Bob was eaten by the demodogs as the gang was trying to escape the Hawkins National Lab after the Mind Flayer pulled a fast one on them.

Aside from Ryder, Astin in the biggest ’80s star on the list. Astin starred in The Goonies, which was released in 1985. That was a huge movie at the time and still is, really.

Astin also starred in a few more movies in the ’80s, including Like Father Like Son and White Water Summer in 1987 and The War of the Roses and Staying Together in 1989.

He is probably most well-known for his role as Sam Gamgee in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Astin also starred in another Netflix series, No Good Nick.
