Where they during the 1980s: Stranger Things cast

Stranger Things is basically a big love letter to the 1980s. There are ’80s stars in the Netflix series and tons of pop culture references to ’80s movies, shows, books and more.

For ’80s day during Netflix Life’s Stranger Things Theme Week, we decided to take a look in the rearview mirror for some of the stars of Stranger Things who were alive during the 1980s.

Let’s get the list started with Matthew Modine!

Flip the pages to see what all seven of these Stranger Things stars were doing back when the show is set.

Stranger Things cast: Matthew Modine

Matthew Modine starred in the first season of Stranger Things as Dr. Martin Brenner, also known as Papa to Eleven. He was the leader, or so it appears, at the Hawkins National Lab that was doing the experiments on kids.

Dr. Brenner was mauled by the Demogorgon at the end of the first season of Stranger Things. We thought he was dead, but now, there are questions about that. We’ll probably see Dr. Brenner again in Stranger Things.

Long before he was in Stranger Things, Modine starred in a bunch of popular ’80s movies, including Baby It’s You, Private School, and Vision Quest. Modine rose to fame after starring in Full Metal Jacket, which was directed by Stanley Kubrick and premiered in 1987.
