Gods, demons, and family feuds! Oh my! Looking for some truly original anime to watch on Netflix? How about a show loosely based on classic Greek Mythology with a twist for the ages? Good news! Netflix has you covered with its new animated series called Blood of Zeus. And as of today, this one’s officially streamable.

Formerly known as Gods & Heroes (and loosely based on the video game of the same name), this original animated TV series was created/adapted by Charley and Vlas Parlapanides. Not to mention, this one stands in an anime league all its own.

According to Tech Radar, Blood of Zeus is, “a truly classic Greek myth, interlacing the grand and epic with the pitiful and bleak, making the movements of the sky and sea synonymous with the extensions of a flawed and powerful pantheon.”

Sounds pretty epic, to say the least. But before we start watching, let’s go over what this new anime-meets-Greek-myth TV series is really all about. Here’s everything we know about Blood of Zeus. 

What is Blood of Zeus on Netflix?

Blood of Zeus tells an imaginative tale following the illegitimate son of Zeus named Heron. Even though Zeus is rumored to have many illegitimate children in Greek Mythology, Heron is said to be special for a number of notable reasons, but I won’t spoil it for you.

At some point along the way, he discovers who his father really is and inevitably, finds himself burdened and destined to save everyone, everywhere. And yes, I do mean everywhere.

IMDb describes the main character and central dilemma as “a young man tasked with saving heaven and earth despite the interference of a vengeful goddess and her monstrous forces.”

Netflix describes the plot as:

"A commoner living in ancient Greece, Heron discovers his true heritage as a son of Zeus, and his purpose: to save the world from a demonic army."
