Is Stranger Things season 4 going to be delayed?

Stranger Things season 3 premiered on Netflix in July 2019. After the season, and probably even before the season, we knew we would have to wait a long time until Stranger Things season 4 was released on Netflix. That’s just how things go with Netflix’s most popular show.

We have waited 15 months and counting for Stranger Things season 4, and we aren’t going to see the season anytime soon.

Stranger Things season 4 started filming in early 2020, but it didn’t last very long. Netflix shut down production on season 4 in March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The shutdown lasted more than six months.

The cast and crew returned to Atlanta in September 2020 to resume production on season 4.

Because production was delayed by six months, we have to assume Stranger Things season 4 release date will also be delayed.

According to David Harbour, who stars as Hopper in the Netflix original series, Stranger Things season 4 would have been released in early 2021. Now, it’s unclear whether filming will even be done by then.

How long will Stranger Things season 4 be delayed?

That’s the big question, and we don’t have a clear answer yet.

With production being delayed by six months, we have to imagine that the show is about six months behind schedule. So, if Stranger Things season 4 was set to be released in February 2021, we could see the new season in August 2021.

I’m not saying that’s what will happen; that’s just what could happen.

There’s a chance that the creative team and crew were able to speed up the production timeline during the delay. We know the writers were able to finish the scripts for all eight or nine episodes during the break. That’s a good sign.

Based on the timelines of other Netflix shows, Stranger Things season 4 will likely be released in the fall of 2021. It could be released earlier than that, but it’s safe to assume Netflix will not rush this new season.

Production restarted at the very end of September 2020. I highly doubt we’ll see season 4 before October 2021.

October is the perfect month to release a new season of Stranger Things anyway. It’s the month that most fans rewatch the series because that’s when the first two seasons are set. It’s the perfect fall show.
