What happened in the Lucifer season 5, part 1 finale?

The Lucifer season 5, part 1 hit us all as quickly as one of Maze’s best dropkicks! Let’s break down everything that happens in the final 30 minutes of episode 8, “Spoiler Alert.”

One minute Maze and Lucifer are working together and the next they are fighting each other. What’s up with Lucifer not being about to say “I love you” to Chloe? And if God is angry, he certainly doesn’t seem like it! How did each character get here!

As we’ve mentioned before, we love how the first set of episodes for Lucifer season 5 is all about the character’s journeys and stories.

We have learned so much more about them, which isn’t something you can say for any series that is already going on five seasons. But the emotional chapters and events were only preparing us for an action-packed finale!

Needless to say, the wait for Lucifer season 5, part 2 won’t be easy, but we know it’ll be worth the wait! In the meantime, let’s go over the events in the final episode of part 1.

Lucifer season 5, part 1 ending

The back-half of episode 8 sees Ella fighting for her life, which caught us off guard. As much as we suspected Pete, we never imagine he was the actual killer! What a shocker. Luckily, Ella survives and manages to escape. Justice will be served, but Pete is not the one who kidnapped Chloe. We find out it’s Michael.

Michael kidnapped Chloe to get revenge on Lucifer. Maze, Dan, and Lucifer find Chloe, but not before Michael plants in Chloe’s mind the idea that Lucifer doesn’t really love her. If he did, he would have said the words, right?

As Chloe tells Lucifer this, he explains that “it’s complicated” and stutters with his words. He is about to say he loves her, but he is interrupted by Amenadiel stopping time. My guess is that Lucifer has never said these words, not out loud.

Can you blame him? He’s the Devil, he hasn’t exactly had people in his life to say these words to. But let’s backtrack a bit to also explain why Maze ends up #TeamMichael.

Maze cares about Chloe. Heck, Maze cares about everyone in her life, and deeply! So she sucks up the anger and resentment she feels towards Lucifer to help find her. But once that’s over, it all comes bursting out.

There was never a good time to confront Lucifer about hiding Maze’s mom from her, so Michael gets to Maze when she is in a very vulnerable spot. Michael promises Maze a soul if she helps him take down Lucifer and Amenadiel and she, being mad at Lucifer, accepts.

It really doesn’t help that Lucifer tells Maze she is “just a demon,” it only angers her more. So while I wish she hadn’t believed Michael’s lies, I understand where she is coming from here.

Finally, the big moment of the finale (and the series so far), God stops the epic fight. And what an epic fight it is! Who else was on the edge of their seat?

God yells at them to stop fighting, but then we see his gentle face and soothing voice tell his children how much he hates it when they fight. How can someone be so angry and loving at the same time? Dennis Haysbert is perfect for this role!

We have so many questions for Lucifer season 5, part 2 to answer, but at least we know where each character stands so far.
