4. Dead to Me

Number of Seasons: 2

What It’s About: Dead to Me is the story of two women (Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini) who bond during their therapy sessions for bereft spouses. Applegate’s Jen lost her husband suddenly when he was killed in a hit and run accident while Cardellini’s Judy lost her husband to a heart attack. Both women have different styles of grieving, and it’s in their pain that their bond develops.

Dead to Me is an easy show to love. It draws viewers in from the very start, and then in a plot twist it is revealed that Judy hasn’t been telling the truth to Judy about what happened to her husband. From there, the story takes a dark turn that will keep viewers watching and there is plenty to explore in a third season if one is granted.

Why It Could Be Cancelled: Looking back at Dead to Me’s history, season 1 premiered in May 2019 and Netflix renewed it a month later. Season 2 was also released in May, but Netflix has remained silent about a renewal. With the challenges facing the entertainment industry this year, the fact that the show has not been renewed yet should not be taken as reason for alarm, but given the circumstances it also means that safety is not guaranteed.
