5. Cheer

Number of Seasons: 1

What It’s About: Cheer follows the champion Navarro College Bulldogs through the highs and lows of collegiate cheer. From practice to competitions to the coveted performance at Nationals, viewers get to experience it all.

To the uninitiated, Cheer is the kind of show that closes the book on the question of whether cheerleaders are athletes. They are. With so much pressure to be the best, the Navarro College Bulldogs are doing everything they can to win another title and the stress infiltrates every aspect of their lives.

Why It Could Be Cancelled: COVID-19 is going to impact just about every series and movie out there, but Cheer has the rather unique circumstance of being filmed at a college. As of this writing there is no telling what the fall semester will look like, let alone the college sport landscape.

Competitions are going to be very different moving forward, and it is very possible that cheer and dance squads will be sidelined until safety measures can be implemented.

With so much uncertainty, there is no clear path forward on what a new season of Cheer would even look like, and that could impact Netflix’s decision on whether to renew it.
