Stranger Things season 4 will obviously be delayed. According to star David Harbour, the new season was supposed to be released on Netflix in early 2021, and Harbour said that release date has been “pushed back.”

So, when is the Stranger Things season 4 release date on Netflix? Right now, we don’t know, and I don’t know if anyone really knows. There are too many factors affecting the release date.

As mentioned, we don’t know when production will start. We also don’t know how long it will take to complete filming.

There are rumors online that the first two episodes of the season have been finished. Netflix nor anyone involved with production has confirmed that publicly, but if that’s true, that means they have at least 75 percent of the season to film.

At the time of publishing, it’s been three months since filming stopped, so we have to assume the season will be delayed at least three months and probably a lot longer than that as there don’t seem to be any plans to start filming anytime soon.

They might be able to cut a few weeks off production here and there by rewriting the season or filming longer days. Caleb McLaughlin and Sadie Sink are already 18 years old, and Gaten Matarazzo and Finn Wolfhard turn 18 years old in Septemeber and December, respectively. When they turn 18, they can begin filming longer days because they aren’t under child labor laws at that point.

Right now, we’re still hopeful to see Stranger Things season 4 on Netflix by the end of 2021. There still seems to be plenty of time for that to happen, although it really just depends on what happens with the pandemic.

Overall, I wouldn’t be surprised is Stranger Things season 4 is pushed back to 2022. The pandemic doesn’t seem to be slowing down in the United States and that’s a problem for getting the full cast and crew back to Atlanta and then to New Mexico to finish filming the season.

Will Stranger Things season 4 be the last season?

There’s been chatter for years that Stranger Things could end after season 4. I don’t think that this season will be the final season, though.

Netflix usually announces the final season of big shows when renewing them for the final season, and that didn’t happen with Stranger Things season 4. That means there is likely at least one more season in the works.

I guess there’s a chance this could be the last season of Stranger Things, but I doubt that’s going to happen.

UPDATE: David Harbour confirmed in a recent interview that Stranger Things season 5 is on the table. While he didn’t specifically say it’s going to happen, he referenced the fifth season multiple times.
