How the coronavirus pandemic is affecting the Stranger Things 4 release date

Production on Stranger Things season 4, and all other Netflix shows and movies, shut down in March 2020. At the time, Netflix shut down production for two weeks, but it became apparent very quickly that delay would not be nearly long enough.

Now, it’s been three months since Stranger Things stopped production. The cast and crew have left Atlanta and returned to their homes.

So, that’s where things stand now. Production is currently delayed, and there’s no end to that delay in sight.

Below, we shared everything you need to about the coronavirus is affecting the Stranger Things season 4 release date, the new season, and more.

When will Stranger Things season 4 start filming again?

That’s the most important question because it’s going to set the timeline in place for the release of Stranger Things season 4.

So, production has been shut down for months so far, and it doesn’t seem like there’s any end in sight. At the time of publishing, coronavirus cases are spiking all over the United States, including in Georgia, which is where Stranger Things films, according to The Augusta Chronicle.

Until it’s safe to get back to filming, Stranger Things season 4 will likely remain on hiatus. We don’t know when it’s going to be safe to get back to filming, so it’s hard to make any kind of prediction.

Various productions are starting up again all over the world, including The Witcher season 2 in the UK this August, according to reports. I don’t think we’ll see Stranger Things season 4 start production again before The Witcher, so it’ll probably be fall, at the earliest, that we the cast and crew get back to Georgia to start filming new episodes.

UPDATE: It’s been reported that Stranger Things season 4 could resume production in September 2020.

While September looks good now, it will be interesting to see how the unions let production proceed. If there’s any chance – ANY CHANCE – that one of these cast members get sick, it’s not going to happen.

That’s the best prediction we can make at this point.

Stranger Things season 4 will look different because of coronavirus

Stranger Things, like all other shows and movies, will look a lot different because of the coronavirus pandemic. As mentioned, production will not start until it is safe to do so.

Even when production does resume, things will be a lot different. There will be social distancing restrictions in place, most likely, on fight scenes, romantic scenes, and other scenes in which actors are required to be closer together or touch, according to the LA Times.

A recent report outlined some of the plans for production to resume in LA County, and we have to assume those rules will carry over to Georgia and New Mexico where Stranger Things season 4 will be filmed when production starts.

Because of these restrictions, it’s expected that writers and creative teams will have to get even more creative with what happens in scenes, who’s included in those scenes, and the like. With that, directors and cinematographers will also have to be even more creative when it comes to blocking, camera placements, and camera moves.

There’s still so much that has to happen before Stranger Things gets the green light to start filming, but we’ll let you know when it happens.
