Best new Netflix movies and shows –  34. Inside Man

Release Year: 2006

Directed By: Spike Lee

Starring: Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster, Christopher Plummer, Willem Dafoe, Chiwetel Ejiofor

Release Date: Monday, June 1

Seeing as it’s unofficially Spike Lee month on Netflix, since his latest film titled Da 5 Bloods premieres on June 12 (more on that in a later slide), it’s only fitting that more of the celebrated director’s “joints” start streaming, too. Ahead of the release of Da 5 Bloods, Lee’s 2006 heist thriller Inside Man returns to the streamer, and it’s not a moment too soon to escape into a high-octane film. Throw the blockbuster on your movie marathon watch list starting this month.

Denzel Washington stars in Inside Man as Detective Keith Frazier, who finds himself tangling and matching wits with crafty bank robber Dalton Russell (Clive Owen). The detective has his work cut out for him as an intense hostage situation unfolds, which becomes all the more tenuous when power broker Madeleine White (Jodie Foster) gets in the mix with her hidden agenda. Before long, her involvement in the hostage situation threatens to push the stressful and dangerous situation past a boiling point that Detective Frazier can control.

Inside Man comes from director Spike Lee, who also directed such “joints” as She’s Gotta Have It, Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X, and the upcoming Netflix original film Da 5 Bloods. The film garnered mostly positive reviews from critics and holds an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Additionally, Inside Man was a box office hit, bringing in over $184 million worldwide, and produced a 2019 direct-to-video sequel. As you’ll find, a number of heist films are coming to Netflix this month, but Inside Man might be one of the top titles debuting at the top of June.
