2. The main character shows growth

Uhtred is not perfect. There are some serious flaws to this character that will make you scream at the TV screen. But this is something that makes him real.

Throughout the first three seasons, we’ve seen him grow. While he’s loyal to his dreams and his own faith, he can also adapt for the situation. He’s true to his word, whether it means swearing an oath to protect his brother or protecting a princess despite being an outlaw.

The growth comes with the character aging and the experiences he’s been through. He adapts for the people around him, whether it’s the woman he loves or the children he has.

3. The battles constantly change

There are plenty of battles throughout The Last Kingdom. You’d think after three seasons of shield walls, you’d get bored of seeing the same thing over and over again, but that’s most definitely not the case.

Every season, there are multiple Danes to fight. There are various battles that take place, with questions of loyalty either side. And throughout the three seasons, all battles have offered something different.

There are times the lines remain compact. There are times you think our favorite characters are going to lose because they’re surrounded. And there are times they have to think on their feet as their numbers are much smaller than the enemies. The Last Kingdom season 4 promises more battles that look entirely different to the ones we’ve already seen just based on the trailer.
