If you’re like most of Netflix binge-watchers, you spent most of last fall getting into, or — more than likely — getting back into the hit Nickelodeon series Victorious when it became available to stream. Maybe that walk down memory lane cracked the door open for more, and you’re wondering what Victoria Justice has been up to. Well, last year, she appeared in the coming-of-age romantic comedy Summer Night, and it’s one of March’s best new release movies.

Summer Night takes place during, what else, one of the last summer nights before it’s back to reality. Seth (Ian Nelson) and Jameson (Ellar Coltrane), best friends and bandmates, prepare to perform and party at The Alamo. However, before their big night begins, Seth and Jameson each confront a couple of night-altering reality checks. Seth’s girlfriend, Mel (Analeigh Tipton), delivers a piece of consequential news, while Jameson faces the choice between his on-and-off-again girlfriend, Corin (Elena Kampouris), or the intriguingly outspoken Harmony (Victoria Justice).

Summer Night comes from director Joseph Cross, who makes his directorial debut after appearing as an actor in titles such as Big Little Lies, Running with Scissors, MIndhunter and Milk. The film made its world premiere at the Atlanta Film Festival in April 2019 before being acquired by Samuel Goldwyn Films. Summer Night holds a middling 55% on Rotten Tomatoes, denoting mixed reception from critics. But if you’re a fan of coming-of-age movies, be sure to check out Summer Night when it makes its streaming debut on Netflix at the top of March.
