Anne with an E

The Canadian period drama is officially coming to an end after three seasons. Already airing in Canada, the show isn’t heading to Netflix until 2020, which means that technically, it’s one of the first shows of the new decade to end.

Anne with an E is based on the Anne of Green Gables books, focusing on a young girl who doesn’t feel like she fits in anywhere. She learns about love and compassion throughout the story, along with facing issues of the times. After all, it is set in a time when women were nothing more than property for their fathers or husbands.

Rather than “ending,” the show is actually canceled. Expect an ending that doesn’t quite finish off the story. It’s no surprise that fans are taking to social media with the #RenewAnneWithAnE hashtag to make noise about the decision.

Show creator, Moira Walley-Beckett, has said that she would like to wrap up the storylines with a finale feature film. There is hope in the future for something. Even if it’s way into the future, like it took to bring the Veronica Mars or Firefly movies, it’s better than nothing at all!

The final episodes air on Netflix on Jan. 3, 2020.
