Ahead of the season 2 premiere of You on Netflix, we interviewed star Adwin Brown, and he gave us plenty of teasers about what’s to come.

Adwin Brown is best known for his work on Heathers and The Fosters, but he recently took on a drastically different role in the upcoming second season of You on Netflix.

Though Brown’s character, Calvin, still has the actor’s charisma, it’s not every day you are BFF’s with a serial killer. Fear not (well, at least when it comes to Calvin), the character will be providing plenty of laughs and is sure to lighten up what is set to be a darker and bolder season.

Will Calvin uncover Joe Goldberg’s (Penn Badgley) dark secrets? How different will season 2 on Netflix be from Hidden Bodies (the book this season is based on by Caroline Kepnes)? Adwin Brown teases us with plenty to keep impatient fans happy until the second season premiere on Dec. 26, read on!

A fan of the series himself, Brown was captivated by the series just as much as the rest us.

“The show is just one of those shows that has a great word of mouth appeal,” Brown said. “And I just kept hearing people talk about it! That’s how I actually got into the show.”

When Brown learned a second season was in the making, he was only on season 1, episode 3 when he auditioned and quickly landed the role. Needless to say, Brown binged-watched the rest of the series pretty quickly!

As mentioned, Brown will portray Calvin, who, if you have read the book Hidden Bodies, is hilarious! I didn’t hold back in telling Brown how Calvin is one of my favorite characters from the novel and how I can’t wait to see Calvin annoy the heck out of Joe.

For those not in the know about the pages, Calvin is a high-end grocery store manager who hires Joe. He is talkative, loves diving into a good mystery, and is super chill. In the book, Calvin’s mood also depends on what substance he is on or how his night was. And there’s no end to the stories and conversations Calvin shares with Joe. Basically, there’s never a dull moment with Calvin around.

Let’s hope Calvin’s desires and needs for a fun story don’t get him into too much trouble. We all know the fate of those who dig a little too deep into Joe.

Though Brown absolutely loved playing the part and hopes to do the character from the books justice, he does warn fans not to expect a page-to-TV copy. For starters, Brown shares that there will be a lot of Calvin, Joe, and Forty (James Scully) — a trio we can’t wait to meet!

About the differences between Hidden Bodies and You season 2, Brown promises that “the two are different entities” and that readers are in for huge surprises and twists. Brown teases that the people behind the series wanted it to be “about only half from the books and the rest new material.” That is a big percentage, so we can’t wait to watch!

Finally, for all those hopeless romantics out there, Brown has some words of advice as he shares that he likes to keep in touch with logic when it comes to romance, unlike Joe. Instead of falling head over heels for someone, think it over!

“If you’re not too careful, Joe’s gonna get you,” he laughs.
