At today’s NYCC panel for The Walking Dead, audiences in attendance learned that Lauren Cohan would be returning to the show. Continue reading for more details.

After ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier was canceled, fans of The Walking Dead expected Lauren Cohan to make her way back to the zombie-based series, according to EW, and now it’s happening.

Today’s NYCC (New York Comic-Con) panel revealed that Cohan would reprise her role as Maggie Greene on the AMC series. The only catch is it won’t be until season 11.

The other big reveal at the panel was that TWD would also be renewed for an eleventh season. There have been doubts about how long AMC’s flagship can last without suffering from viewer fatigue, though it looks like the network is taking their chances with the show anyway.

As for Cohan, she’ll make her grand return in season 11, but she’s expected to appear before then, albeit for a limited appearance. The panelists on hand at NYCC hinted at Maggie Greene showing up towards the end of season 10, they just didn’t provide any context to where or how.

More from The Walking Dead

In all likelihood, Maggie will probably return during the finale to combat the Whisperers if they’re still wreaking havoc. Although, it’s also possible that the Whisperer threat will be dealt with by then and Maggie serves another purpose. Who knows, she and Georgie (Jayne Atkinson) might wind up becoming the series’ new antagonists.

Assuming a popular fan theory online is correct, Georgie could be part of the Commonwealth who in the comics are some seriously dangerous individuals. They wind up becoming a bigger threat than even the Saviors and that’s saying something. So if Maggie does wind up as one of them, there’s no doubting that some sort of conflict will arise.
