When you think of the best zombie series ever to come out, The Walking Dead just has to be the show that comes to mind. After an incredible 11-season run, the popular post-apocalyptic horror drama came to a close. All 11 seasons are currently streaming on Netflix, and people are going back to rewatch the entire series while new viewers are finding their way to the show and watching it for the first time.

Obviously, a show about humans and zombies will involve multiple deaths. And throughout the 11 seasons, we saw many fan-favorite characters meet their demise. One of the memorable and most heart-wrenching character deaths would have to be Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun).

Glenn is introduced in the first season. He was a pizza delivery boy pre-zombie apocalypse and wasn’t happy about how his life was going at the time. When the zombie outbreak happened, he found a group of other survivors in Atlanta and would later become the main supply runner for the group. Then, he eventually meets and saves Rick, and they band together with other survivors. They stick together until Glenn dies a brutal death…

So, how did Glenn die in The Walking Dead, and in what episode? Find out below.

Spoilers from The Walking Dead season 7 ahead.

What episode does Glenn die in The Walking Dead?

Viewers officially say goodbye to Glenn in the first episode of the seventh season. The Walking Dead season 7 episode 1 is titled “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be.” This is the last time we see Steven Yeun on screen as Glenn Rhee.

How did Glenn die in The Walking Dead season 7?

As Rick and his group kneel on the ground in a line surrounded by Negan and his men, Negan deliberates on who to kill. He plays a game of Eeny, meeny, miny, moe and lands on Abraham. He then beats Abraham to death with Lucille (a wooden baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire that Negan named after his late wife). With tensions high after Abraham’s death, Daryl jumps up to punch Negan in the face, but because of his rash actions, Negan chooses another person in Rick’s group to kill.

He suddenly slams Lucille on top of Glenn’s head, making a dent in Glenn’s skull and one of his eyes pops out. After taunting Glenn as he tries to speak, Negan continues to strike Glenn over and over with Lucille until he’s unrecognizable and dead. The rest of the group watches, horrified.
