Emmys 2019: Netflix scores 117 nominations for When They See Us and more
By Bryce Olin
Netflix scored 117 nominations for the 2019 Emmys, including nominations for When They See Us, Russian Doll and more.
When all the 2019 Emmy nominations were announced and the dust settled, Netflix racked up 117 nominations. Netflix originals When They See Us and Russian Doll were nominated for the most Emmys this year.
Netflix received the second-most nominations of all the networks. HBO, led by Game of Thrones, topped the list with 137 nominations, according to a report from Variety.
When They See Us, created by Ava DuVernary, tallied 16 Emmy nominations for Outstanding Limited Series, Best Actor in a Limited Series (Jharrel Jerome), two for Best Actress in a Limited Series (Niecy Nash and Aunjanue Ellis), and more!
When They See Us seems like the early favorite in the limited series categories. It was and is much better than any of the other shows nominated, and the performances were outstanding. The show could not have been better or more powerful.
Russian Doll, the breakout Netflix original comedy series, was nominated for 13 Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress (Natasha Lyonne) and more.
Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé scored six Emmy nominations in the Variety Special category and technical categories.
For all those wondering about the Netflix original hit Stranger Things, the show was not eligible because the season did not premiere before May 31, 2019. It will be eligible for next year’s Emmys.
